Feminine Reflection

This collection is a story about femininity, featuring three looks all of which represent a different stage in a woman’s life. Each look represents a different phase: childhood innocence, corruption, and embracing femininity. The first piece in my collection is influenced by the theme of childhood innocence. Inspired by the portrait of Marie Antoinette in a Chemise Dress by Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun is a look that embodies the scrutiny a young girl hears in her youth. The second piece in my collection is inspired by a painting titled Portrait of Madame X by John Singer Sargent and is a representation of the subtle shift from innocence to corruption. This theme emphasizes the societal pressures women face and the transformative power of taking control and becoming confident. The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli provides the framework for the final piece.  Like Venus, this project constitutes the divergence from birth to womanhood and the metamorphosis that occurs when women choose to accept the full scale of their femininity. It is a merge of the other two pieces, representing childhood innocence being broken, and from that, Venus is born. She is strong and powerful like the ocean; an absolute force of nature and completely confident and sure of herself.
